CHOSUNG TARKAL

  TIMELINE NOTE   Chosung was originally written with the KOTOR timeline in mind, but I tried to keep the backstory vague so that he would fit in other timelines too. Although he will sometimes mention bits and pieces from his KOTOR time, I try not to be too specific about what era he's from so he can interact with characters from any time.

backstory

Early Life: Ages 0 - 2

Born on the Arkanian homeworld of Arkania as Sollih Rurqokdrel, Chosung was very thoroughly lower middle-class. His parents were both professors at a local university. Chosung was their only child and they had high expectations for him from birth. Arkanian society valued academics above everything and Chosung's parents were determined to have their son be just as intelligent as them.Chosung had always been a laid back child, which annoyed his parents who were hoping to see results at an early age. What Chosung did show at an early age, was his high level of spatial awareness. He would often turn his head to look at doorways seconds before someone walked into the room or he would move out of the way before someone walked through the room as if he knew exactly where they were going to walk.Upon Chosung's 2nd birthday, he had his routine medical exam. Chosung was unaware of what was going on, but for the next few months he was in great distress and would cry every night. His parents were happy to hand him off to the Jedi recruiter.

Arkanian Academy: Ages 2 - 10

Being the closest Jedi Academy, Chosung was taken to Arca Jeth's Praxeum, which was far from his family's home. The facility was small, but it was a good environment for Chosung to learn. He had heard that other planets were much warmer and had bright suns, it was something he was not looking forward to in his future.Chosung was of average skill for his class. He was naturally very good with the Force and enjoyed meditations. What he lacked in combat abilities, he made up for in Force training. Chosung's teachers grew frustrated with him because they saw his potential to rise through the ranks and become a Knight, but his combat abilities were lagging behind expectations. Chosung did not make many friends during his time on Arkania, mostly due to the culture of putting academics first. Although Arkanians were not the only species in the Praxeum, Arkanian culture was prevalent throughout.When Chosung was 10, his teachers thought he would do with a more challenging environment. Chosung's strength in the Force showed his potential, he just needed a better environment.

Jedi Temple: Ages 10 - 13

Chosung was sent to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant with an unceremonious bang on his door and orders to get up and get ready to leave. Chosung was convinced he was being thrown out, but to his surprise he was put on a transport and heading... somewhere.At this stage, Chosung had learned not to ask questions when random things happened. Instead, he meditated, hoping to find the answers through the Force. When the transport arrived on Coruscant, Chosung was handed a pair of blinders and a thick cloak. Coruscant was brutal on the young Arkanian. Chosung could not believe he was expected to continue his Jedi training and deal with the blistering heat and sun on Coruscant.Chosung avoided going outside whenever possible, but the heat was crazy for him. He felt like he had to work twice as hard just to meet the average benchmarks for his class. Chosung befriended a few other students on Coruscant, but never any meaningful friendships as such as discouraged.At the age of 13, Chosung was prepared to take the Initiate Trials. He was a bit lukewarm on the whole Jedi thing, but the idea of wandering the galaxy on his own was even scarier. Being with the Jedi for so long, Chosung did not know how to do a lot of 'basic' life things. If he didn't pass the trials and win the favour of a Master, he'd probably go back to Arkania and leave the Order entirely.Luckily for Chosung, he passed the trials due to his high academics and Force abilities. He barely passed the combat portion of the Trials, but he took the lessons he learned from that and trained intensively for the Jedi Tournament. His performance at the Tournament was far from perfect, but his Force abilities were clear, he had fantastic foresight and adapted to random environmental changes like water or zero gravity. His excellence was quickly noticed by Jedi Master Limea Kelkess who took him as an apprentice immediately.

Prison: Ages 26 - 27

Limea went on a number of undercover missions and as such, Chosung and her were captured whilst out on a mission to steal a Sith holocron. They were caught as they were scouting the area and arrested for suspected espionage activity.Limea made the case that her and Chosung were mother and son and that they had lost their way. The Sith were suspicious the two were connected to the Jedi and subjected the two to a serious of torture procedures to try and get them to show their abilities. Chosung endured the physical agony on his own as much as it hurt not to be able to use any of his abilities. The two both 'passed' the tests sent to the medium-security Sith prison.Chosung and Limea did not see each other very much during their time in prison, although they could sense each other through the Force whenever they meditated. Chosung was forced to do a lot of hard labour and violence was not uncommon, whether it was prison guards or other inmates. Chosung quickly became proficient in practical combat as when they were captured, both Limea and Chosung had to toss away their sabres.Chosung made a few 'friends' in the prison. It was more like likeminded individuals who wanted to escape. It took months to orchestrate a prison break, but Chosung was determined. Whilst in prison, Chosung met another Jedi in hiding, Iseo Korr. Iseo assisted with the prison break. During the prison break, Chosung showed his resourcefulness with various weapons, including blasters, vibroswords, and later he was able to swipe a sabre to fight.

Bounty Hunter: Ages 32 - present

As the Jedi Order began losing power and the Galactic Republic began clamping down on Jedi and Force Users, many Jedi chose to go into hiding which included Chosung. Skilled in the ways of a Sentinel, Chosung did not have any trouble picking up a blaster and carrying on with life in a more conventional way. He sought refuge on the planet Taris, which had its own problems with the Sith and Jedi. He was chilling in a bar when he noticed a familiar face -- Iseo Korr. Chosung and Iseo struck up a conversation and both of them were now in hiding. Iseo invited Chosung to his ship and the two set out to be bounty hunters together.Chosung and Iseo travelled around, doing odd jobs here and there to fund their adventures. Eventually, Chosung got them a droid, impressing Iseo with his mastery of Mechu-Deru and telling him a little about his work as a Shadow. They had some more hijinks, meeting people, fighting, etc. And now Chosung is travelling the galaxy with his crew.
